General

What are the advantages of a zero point clamping system?

Zero point clamping systems are useful for reducing setup times and increasing machine running times. The main focus here is on the repeat accuracy in the setup process of workpieces, clamping devices or vices. Setup time optimization contributes to more efficient manufacturing processes.

What are the types of zero point plates available?

Zero point plates from LANG Technik are available in various designs with predefined mounting holes and also without a hole pattern. Plates without hole pattern can be individually adapted to table specifications. With regard to the plate type, there are single plates for one clamping unit and multiple plates for several clamping units lined up next to each other. Both versions are available with a bolt dimension of 52 mm for smaller components and 96 mm for larger components. Furthermore, square or round plates are available to match the machine table optically. Further plate types are:

  • Modular plates mounted in series and clamped simultaneously with a single tightening screw
  • Combo plates that combine both grid dimensions 52 and 96 mm
  • Adapter plates that can be used to reduce from the 96 mm grid to the 52 mm grid

Which grid dimensions does LANG Technik offer for zero point clamping?

LANG Technik offers its zero point clamping system in the grid dimensions 52 and 96 mm.

Which zero point grid do I need for which vise size?

52 mm for Makro•Grip® 46 and 77 and 96 mm for Makro•Grip® 125.

How are vises clamped in the zero point clamping system?

By means of four clamping studs / pull studs mounted in the bottom of the 5-Axis Vise. These are clamped in the zero point plates with a tightening screw.

Can other clamping devices besides the centering vises be clamped?

All clamping devices in which clamping studs can be inserted with a pitch of 52 or 96 mm can also be clamped in the zero point plates.

How accurate is the zero point clamping system?

The zero point system guarantees a repeatability of 0.005 mm.

Are the Quick•Point® plates hardened?

Yes, all zero point plates from LANG Technik are case hardened to 57 HRc.

What are the pull-in forces of LANG's zero point clamping system?

Depending on the zero point plate type, up to 14 kN.

Are there also zero point plates with hydraulic or pneumatic operation?

Special solutions with pneumatic or hydraulic actuation can also be offered on request. Pneumatically actuated systems are also available for our automation systems.

Do unused zero point holes have to be closed with plugs?

In the case of multiple plates, this is mandatory in order to ensure an even distribution of forces. For single plates it is at least recommended to prevent contamination with chips.

Can the zero point plates also be used in lathes / mill-turn centers?

In principle, yes, if the max. speed of 500 rpm is observed.

Is the zero point clamping system also suitable for EDM machines?

Since the zero point plates are not made of stainless material, it is not recommended.

Installation / Assembly / Customizations

Where can the zero point clamping system be installed?

On all machine tables, pallets and rotary tables with grooves or threads, as well as on clamping towers, tombstones and wherever threads can be subsequently inserted.

How is the zero point clamping system mounted on the machine table?

By means of cylinder head bolts and T-slot nuts.

How can I align the zero point plate on the machine table?

There are various approaches here: With keyways, sliding blocks or dowel pins inserted in the zero plates, or by means of a probe and a special measuring element clamped in the plate.

In which areas of a zero point plate can I drill mouting bores?

Wherever mounting screws do not collide with the rods of the mechanism. For verification, relevant drawings and CAD files can be downloaded from our website. Alternatively, customers can send us a drawing of their machine table and we will check the feasibility.

The zero point plate protrudes beyond the machine table. Is an adjustment possible?

If the overhanging part of the plates collides with the interference circle of the machine, the outer contour of the plates can be adjusted to a certain degree.

Maintenance / Repair

How are the zero point plates maintained?

In principle, the plates are maintenance-free. However, if they are used in machines without cooling lubricant, occasional greasing of the clamping wedges is recommended. For this purpose, the mechanism must be dismantled.

Are there spare parts for the Quick•Point® plates?

Yes, all individual parts, such as tightening screw and clamping wedges of the zero point plates are available as spare parts.

How time-consuming is the repair of a Quick•Point® zero point plate?

Repairs are uncomplicated and can be carried out by the customer himself. Due to the small number of individual components, the wedge system can be removed and installed in just a few steps.
